Some plane journeys are just so long that it’s important we sit back and get some much-needed sleep. Either that, or you might just have nothing better to do. Whatever the case maybe, actually getting to sleep while up in the air can be challenging. Here are some tips to make it easier.
Book a Window Seat
Booking a window seat beforehand would be a good idea if you are someone who struggles with sleep on a flight. It will allow you to have something to lean your head against and will make it easier for you to sleep.
Use a Sleeping App
Sleeping apps are a great help these days. Just check out some of the best ones and download them to your phone. Select the music or guided meditations that make you feel calm and then play them before your sleep time on a flight.
Use Noise-Canceling Headphones
The one thing that can hinder your sleep during a long flight is the incessant sounds of your fellow passengers. Bring a nice pair of noise-canceling headphones along with you to drown out any extra noise. Then you can just doze off without being bothered.
No Caffeine
You simply must steer clear of all sorts of caffeine drinks before your flight if you are a light sleeper. Try decaffeinated herbal tea or sparkling water if you must have a drink during a flight instead of coffee for better sleep.
Avoid Specific Foods
Try and avoid eating any carb-rich or spicy foods before or during a flight as they might lead to ingestion. An upset stomach will make you feel restless and hence hamper your sleep completely. Eat something light and refreshing instead.
Have Some Quick Energy Boosts
Getting up during the middle of the night when you are on a flight and in a completely new time zone can disturb your sleep greatly. Carry some healthy snacks along with you like energy bars, nuts, and fruits, to calm the hunger.
