Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t all about politics in her social media accounts. The first-time congresswoman uses Instagram to talk about her beauty routine; one time explaining from an Amtrak how she applies her press-on nails.
Apparently, she didn’t mind giving us her comprehensive skincare routine after being triggered by a follower who asked her about staying stress-free and how she keeps her skin so clear. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez admitted being stressed out on a regular basis. She said she used to be a “science nerd,” and that’s how she maintains her skin quality, by a multi-step rigor she calls “a blend between K-Beauty and scientific consensus.” Avoid at All Costs She likes to keep it simple by avoiding full-coverage foundation and advises to never develop the habit of sleeping with makeup. She says she removes it as soon as she comes home. Too tired? That’s why you should stow makeup wipes close to your bed. And don’t use alcohol with them.
She prefers bb creams, tinted moisturizer, and only uses a limited number of make up brands (approximately 7).
Her objective is to “Let your skin BREATHE.” To achieve this she uses the wipe (or balm, oil) to remove the first layer of makeup. This is followed by using a toner, and she recommends plain witch hazel. Then apply serums (with Vitamin C, Retinol), having it closest to your skin after applying a toner.
Finally, Ocasio-Cortez finishes her routine with a moisturizer. She talked about her mother’s experience with skin breakouts, which prompted her to take special care of her skin since she was 19. She advises using sunscreen regularly and avoid touching your face.
Watch Your Diet
As if Ocasio-Cortez read the minds of her followers, she talked about the relevance of one’s diet as a skin factor. She said she had to lower down her dairy intake after experiencing skin outbreaks and it all went away.
There’s really no need to police what you eat, she said. Reminding that it should be an enjoyable relationship and that people should enjoy their food and not be anxious about it. “Just try to make a good choice every time you’re confronted with a decision, and eventually you’ll start to make better and better decisions while letting yourself enjoy what you want,” she added. Ocasio-Cortez spoke about things in a way that makes ordinary citizens relate with her. She wasn’t a know-it-all, and talked about not wearing makeup at times. She said she doesn’t know how to use false eyelashes, but no matter, she keeps on trying it anyway.
Showcasing her eloquence and charm, Ocasio-Cortez shifted her subject from beauty tips to oration seamlessly, in response to a follower who was only interested on how to run a successful campaign. Unfazed, she said, “That’s okay, we all have different interests.” Then she proceeded to discuss about improving one’s public speaking skills.
She discussed about studying Martin Luther King Jr., or Angela Davis; the necessity of observing their styles to grab the audience’s attention. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has shown us her versatility and awareness on various subjects- from politics down to the mundane- and she’s gradually becoming an epitome of the modern woman politician. Whether one is invited to talk about the environment or beauty tips, as Alexandria herself had tweeted, “Be a fierce woman who can do both.”
