In October 2019, Vanity Fair did a cover feature on the entire family where the couple discussed everything – growing up, love, and a certain human living in the White House. The story came out a few weeks after then-President Trump had gone off on Legend and Teigen in one of his Twitter rants.

In 2019, John Legend was named “sexiest man alive” by People. Certain people on the internet begged to differ. A Twitter user took it upon themselves to write, “Wholeheartedly disagree. Highly doubt he could throw me over his shoulder when needed or defend me better than I can.” What followed was utter hilarity.

Teigen shut the troll down with one line. “Can I try to throw you?” she wrote. Not one to let it rest either, Teigen changed her Twitter bio to “currently sleeping with the sexiest man alive.”

Valentine’s Day. One of those days when we all feel pressure to publicize our relationship and discuss how good they are. But Teigen couldn’t care less about the hype around Valentine’s Day or planning elaborate dates even on other days. In February 2020, she shared her views on this kind of performative love on her Cravings website.

Sure, Valentine’s Day and dates are a thing her husband enjoys. But Teigen’s idea of a perfect date was always a night in – wine in hand, wearing a robe, watching a show, and having her husband cooking for her.

As the world locked down in 2020, fans saw numerous glimpses of the Teigen-Legend household. The delight and curiosity soon gave way to concern. Were Legend and Teigen still ok? In July 2020, Legend appeared for an interview on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, where he spoke about past struggles with commitment, “especially” in his 20s. The crooner discussed how he technically dodged by not defining any of his relationships but he admitted it was selfish.

He finally reached a point where he realized he was happier being honest and in love with one person. Teigen chimed in on Twitter, “‘Especially’?? The other sh** is the 10s and 30s, so u better be talking the tens, idiot.”

In August 2020, Teigen and Legend revealed that they were expecting baby no. 3. And, of course, the announcement involved a music video. This one was Legend’s latest single, “Wild.” Throughout the video, we see Legend and Teigen being their happy selves – running around on the beach. Teigen’s belly is expertly-hidden. Before the video ends, Teigen displays her growing baby bump, which Legend touches tenderly, before they return to being ridiculously in love.

After the video came out, Teigen gave her Twitter followers a closer look saying, “Look at this third baby…oh my god.”

Baby No. 3 was as big a surprise to the couple as it was to fans. Teigen and Legend had always been open about their struggles with infertility. They had previously conceived through IVF, and getting pregnant naturally seemed out of bounds.

Teigen revealed that she took pregnancy tests every month for ten years regardless. Wishful thinking, she said. It was another such morning, and the couple was prepared to be disappointed. Every morning it was a negative test result. It wasn’t negative that day!

Safe to say that the couple was blindsided by the third pregnancy but were, of course, overjoyed. However, Teigen was anxious about the news for a different reason. She had just undergone breast reduction surgery.

The timing suggested she may have been pregnant while in surgery despite the routine pregnancy test before going under. The results may have been a false negative. Teigen was terrified at the possible implications. However, between numerous check-ups and hospital visits soon after, she seemed fine.

Teigen never held back when it came to discussing pregnancy complications, and she remained her candid self while expecting Baby No. 3. But on one of these updates, she accidentally revealed on Instagram that they were expecting a boy. Teigen began by talking about the baby’s health.

Without realizing it, she started using pronouns to describe the baby – “he’s big.” She covered her mouth in shock, calling herself stupid. After the blunder, Teigen had no choice but to go through with a spontaneous gender reveal. She captioned the post, “Hahahahaha might as well tell you.”

On September 20, 2020, just weeks after announcing the pregnancy, the couple shared a heart-breaking update on Instagram. They had lost their baby boy. Teigen had pregnancy complications and was on bed rest for two weeks. Things took a turn for the worse, and she was hospitalized.

Despite multiple attempts at basically anything that was possible, the baby didn’t survive. Alongside a note to her followers, Teigen shared solemn black and white photos of her and Legend in the hospital room.

As a practice, the couple had never named their babies beforehand. Their other children, Luna and Miles, got their names at the last possible moment — right before leaving the hospital. But for some reason, Teigen and Legend had already begun calling their unborn son Jack.

There are no limits to a John Legend birthday celebration – especially with Teigen at the helm of things. She celebrated her husband’s 42nd birthday in December 2020 with a Math-Off!

Legend squared off against Mike Rosenthal, their photographer, and director. Teigen played game-show host to the tee, wearing a sparkling gown and holding a microphone. She announced that John and Mike love doing math, so she created the ultimate contest in sixth-grade math. The birthday boy was victorious and said he hoped to get in bed with the host that night.
