In the show, the special drink is a mix of bananas, ginger, the energy drink Tantrum, Funyuns, “grease,” and a special ingredient that is later revealed to be “nothing.”
We were curious to see if Stinson’s fixer elixir actually works or not. So we tried making our own version. Of course, some of the ingredients are fictional, so we needed to get creative.
How We Made the Stinson’s Hangover Fixer Elixir
The key to creating this classic drink is to pick the right ingredients, stay as true to the original from the show, and prepare accordingly.
2 ripe bananas – They are rich in potassium and help to replenish your electrolytes.
1 cup of Red Bull – While most of the ingredients are usable, the energy drink Tantrum doesn’t actually exist in real life. So instead, we decided to use Red Bull. Full of sugar and caffeine, two great ways to give you an energy boost.
Handful of spinach or kale – This ingredient, while not in the show, will help to give the drink that classic green look. Also, they’re two really healthy superfoods.
1 teaspoon of fresh ginger – Great for digestion and for treating nausea.
1 cup of crushed Funyuns – No real nutritional value, but they give the drink a little crunchy kick.
1 tablespoon of olive oil – While Barney simply uses “grease,” we thought that olive oil would provide healthier fats to the mix.
Firstly, peel two bananas and mash them. Then, add a cup of Red Bull and stir. Grate a teaspoon of fresh ginger into the mixing bowl, and then add some crushed Funyuns, and spinach/kale.
Finish off the mixture with one tablespoon of olive oil. You can add the mixture to a blender to make it as smooth as you like.
Add the mixture to your glass of choosing and Voila, your fixer elixir is ready to drink. Before you know it, you’ll be ready to suit up and take on the world again!
Does it Work?
Not like it does in the show. But it’s much tastier than it looks. We could’ve done without the Funyuns though.
