Let Your Teens Upgrade Their Bedrooms With These DIY Projects

All teenagers go through a phase in which they spend way too long in their bedroom. Snailing into your safe space when it looks like nobody understands what you’re going through is a common part of puberty. If you have a teenager going through it, offer to help them with a bedroom upgrade. It will give you a common project to work on, and an opportunity to communicate their troubles with you in a warm, safe environment. We’re not talking about a major renovation, just a few affordable DIY tips to give the room (and your relationship) a little pop.

Lighting

A regular bedside night light is cute, but it might be getting old. Consider swapping the reading lamp for (or add to it) a few strings of LED twinkle lights. These are super affordable and give the room the perfect cozy vibe. Plus, they are super easy to hang and move around so you can experiment with different placements until you find the best one. Try draping them over the headboard or the window curtain rod and watch the fairies swarm in.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper doesn’t have to be applied on a full wall. You can use it to create a few accents around the room. Use it to cover one wall, the bedframe, headboard, or some of the drawers for a funky pop of color.

Washi tape

These rolls of colorful tapes are the bread and butter of anyone with crafty hands. Washi tape is super cheap and super versatile. There is so much you can do with it but a good place to start would be the mirror: use the tape to create an Instagram worth frame around it. You can also just create different patterns with the tape on the walls. One of the advantages of the tape is that you can easily remove it without damaging the wall, so you can play around with different patterns.
