For those who still don’t know, Lionel Messi is regarded by many fans around the world as the greatest soccer player in the world – possibly even of all time. But behind every great man is an even greater woman, and in Lio’s case – it’s Antonela Roccuzzo.
The couple have actually known each other since they were kids. In fact, Messi met Roccuzzo when he was just five years old back in his homeland of Argentina. Despite having a strong connection so early on, Messi moved across the Atlantic at just 13 years of age to play for FC Barcelona. There, he established himself as one of the legends of the game.
After Roccuzzo’s friend passed away in a car accident, the two reconnected. And it was just a few years before the two officially announced that they were an item. And everything went really fast for the couple. Just a year later, in 2010, Messi proposed.

Two years after that, the couple welcomed their first son Thiago into the world. Their two other sons, Mateo and Ciro, were born in 2015 and 2018, respectively. And in between their births, Lio and Antonella tied the knot in their hometown of Rosario.
Despite Messi getting bigger and bigger with every passing year, Antonela stayed by his side – even when he was basically forced to leave Barca for Paris Saint Germain. During his time in the French capital – Messi finally got his hands on the most coveted price in world soccer – lifting the FIFA World Cup for his beloved Argentina – and defeating France in the final.
Overnight, Messi became a pariah in the country he played in domestically. And just like that, Lio and Antonela packed their bags once again. This time, they joined David Beckham’s newly founded club Inter Miami and decided to relocate to the United States.
