The Cake is an off-Broadway show about a North Carolina based pastry shop that refuses to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. The production opened at the City Center Manhattan Theater Club and is heavily propped with decadent confectionery.
Some cakes are fake made with acrylic boxes, paint, and get, but the rest of it is real. Debra Jo Rupp, former “That ’70s Show” star plays the role of Della, the baker, says that she consumers two rich slices of cake per week, along with a few chicken nuggets.
In an interview with The Post, Rupp says that she prefers the nuggets over the sweet cake anytime. Her doctor also warned her on her body’s rise of cholesterol and she thinks it’s the cake.
The props team gets the cake from Food Emporium every week, bakes eight Betty Crocker red velvet cakes, and one fake slice with yogurt frosting all in a week. The cakes play an essential part for the show since people watch not only because of the set, story, actors but also to see the tantalizing cakes.
