Some of you may have heard of Galway, some may haven’t, and some may only have become familiar with it thanks to Ed Sheeran’s song. Either way, it’s a place full of culture, tradition, and history, and you’d do well to put it on your bucket list.

Galway is big on live music. Street performers are nothing out of the ordinary and the place is brimming with pubs where you can listen to live Irish music every day of the week. Some of the most popular Galway pubs to get acquainted with the local music are Tig Coili, Taafers, and The Crane Bar. The music is obviously best0enjoyed accompanied by a pint of Guinness. Who knows? You might even be tempted to dance!
And while we’re talking about Guinness…
Sure, Guinness is a big deal in Ireland, but local Galway breweries will be happy to let you try their own product. When visiting a pub, consider trying some local craft beer or schedule a tour at the Galway Bay Brewery or the Galway Hooker Brewery.
What about food?
You shouldn’t consume all of this beer on an empty stomach. Galway food tours will be happy to help you with that. If you are a more independent type, visit the Galway market to see it for yourself. You can also head over to McDonagh’s for their famous fish and chips, or get fancy at the Michelin-decorated restaurants, Loam and Aniar.
History crash course
The Galway City Museum will happily display the location’s rich history from prehistoric periods, through a time when the place was a fishing village, its construction in the late 13th century, all the way to today. Other historic locations include the Spanish Arch from the 1500s, the Hall of the Red Earl from the 13th century, and Lynch’s Castle, also from the 1500s but still featuring the original gargoyles!
