A lot of people know that Amazon is based in Seattle, but not many people know about its other big branches located in National Landing, Northern Virginia, and Long Island as well as New York City.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the company considered 238 other locations before they decided on these cities. The company is prepared to spend $5 Billion in opening up 50,000 jobs within the areas.
The company also plans to build a Center of Excellence for its Operations in Nashville with plans of hiring 5,000 more people. Jeff Bezos, CEO, and founder of Amazon has shown excitement over the Northern Virginia and New York City offices. His goal is to attract world-class talent to help the company become innovative in providing services to its customers.
Selecting the sites required much effort and research, and so, with these areas finalized, Amazon is ready to contribute to being a more significant part of these communities.
Bill de Blasio, New York City Mayor said that Amazon’s new headquarters signals a booming economy within the city. The government expresses its excitement and welcomes the company wholeheartedly.
A few individuals take it to social media to express their outrage about the news. Personalities like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman to ever be elected to Congress, Senator Michael Gianaris, and council member Jimmy Van Bramer.
Alexandria tweeted: “Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling, and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.”
While Van Bramer and Gianaris wrote: “Offering massive corporate welfare from scarce public resources to one of the wealthiest corporations in the world at a time of great need in our state is just wrong.”
